Keywords: Reestablished Populations from Chinta, new sweet corn composite

Published on:

Further examination of the performance of reestablished populations from Chinta revealed that the variety can be improved by three recurrent selection methods. However, genotype-environment interactions affected yield performance making it very difficult to decide which method is more effective in improving the yielding ability of Chinta. The Syn1 did not differ very much from Syn2 in respect to all the characters measured. It is proposed that farmers can save their own seed for later generations of production. The newly developed sweet corn composite also gave a relatively higher yield compared to Chinta. This promising new composite may become another sweet corn variety for commercial production in our country.
