Submission Guidelines
Requirements for proposing, managing and publishing a PJST Special Issue.
Focused emerging research
To invite relevant and reputable researchers from Malaysia or abroad to submit papers on new and emerging topics within the scope of PJST.
Experienced researchers
Editorial Board Members and high-performing researchers from UPM, other Malaysian universities or institutions worldwide with an H-index of 5 and above may be considered.
Maximum 10 papers
A Special Issue may contain a maximum of 10 papers consisting of review articles, research articles or case studies.
Diversity and authorship
The authors of selected articles must reflect diversity and internationalisation, with at least 30% international and 70% local authors based on the main/corresponding author.
A maximum of three manuscripts by the same author is permitted in one issue, provided the authorship sequence differs in each manuscript.
Review Process
The review will be carried out by the Pertanika Journal Editorial Board using reviewers suggested by the Guest Editor. The Guest Editor may decline or change reviewers or suggest additional reviewers. After receiving the reviewers' reports, the Guest Editor will recommend acceptance or rejection; the final decision rests with the Pertanika Chief Executive Editor (CEE) / Editor in Chief (EIC).
If a Guest Editor submits a paper to their own Special Issue, the review process will be handled by the Pertanika Editorial Board without sharing review information with the Guest Editor.
Paper Format
Scholarly papers intended for publication in Pertanika must be written in IMRAD format. A research article should not exceed 6,000 words and a review article should not exceed 8,000 words, excluding the abstract, references, tables and/or figures. Refer to the Instructions to Authors for samples and reference.
Pertanika uses a plagiarism detection system. By submitting a paper, authors accept that the manuscript may be screened against previously published works. Pertanika does not accept papers with a similarity index above 20%.
Conference organisers
Starting April 2024, conference organisers must publish proceedings with the Pertanika Proceeding Series before applying for Special Issue publication. Papers accepted for a Special Issue may be published with ongoing issues of the related Pertanika journal.
Workshop for Authors
If a submitted manuscript does not follow Pertanika format, every author or a representative author for each manuscript must participate in a workshop on writing according to the Pertanika format. The workshop fee is RM 50.00 / USD 25 per person.
