The isolation of two antifungal pterocarpans from the roots o/Ulex europaeus L (Leguminosae) is described. The compounds were identified as 3-hydroxy-8y9-methylenedioxypterocarpan (maackiain) and 2-hydroxy-3,4- dimethoxy-8,9-methylenedioxypterocarpan (2-hydroxy-4-methoxypterocarpin) by spectroscopic methods.
